Traffic cameras to start recording speeding by end of year

Acting Minister of Regional Development and Public Works of Bulgaria Violeta Koritarova announced that by the end of the year, the TOL cameras will be ready to record speeding on the country’s roads. These measures are aimed at improving road safety, and, according to the minister, the cameras will operate automatically, recording speeding violations.

Speaking at a conference in Plovdiv, Minister Koritarova stressed the importance of this step, especially in the context of the recent amendments to the Road Traffic Act. The amendments concern the determination and control of the average speed of vehicles, which will improve the monitoring of compliance with the rules on long stretches of road.

“We have introduced the concept of ‘average speed’, which will allow us to more effectively record violations, and this should lead to a reduction in accidents,” Koritarova said.

She also opened a two-day conference “Vision 0” dedicated to road safety. The main goal of the event, organized by the Bulgarian Road Safety Industry Association, is to reduce the number of victims in road accidents to zero.

The Minister stressed that the key element of ensuring road safety is the support and development of road infrastructure. According to her, improving the condition of roads directly affects the reduction of accidents. She also noted that recently there has been a decrease in the number of accidents, which is a positive trend.

“We see that the reduction in the number of road accidents is becoming a reality, and our goal is to ensure that there are no victims on the roads,” Koritarova said.

During the conversation with journalists, the minister also touched upon the topic of the cost of vignettes for 2025. She assured that no significant increase in the price of vignettes is expected next year. “We are considering the possibility of leaving them at the current prices,” she added.
