Sunny Beach 2021: PROS and CONS. Prices, sea, beach, housing…

Hello everyone. If you are interested in a holiday in the resort of Sunny Beach 2021 in Bulgaria. Then the questions arise: How to get there? What kind of accommodation to choose? How much does it cost?
This is our second time visiting Sunny Beach this year. And if the first time, in June, there were very few people, and almost nothing was working. Then in July, there are people, almost everything is working.
Sunny Beach 2021 general information

Sunny Beach is a resort in Bulgaria that does not have the longest history. But it is definitely the most popular and the largest in size. The first hotel in Sunny Beach was opened in 1959. Sunny Beach is a place that was surrounded by greenery and was moderately built up 20 years ago, privileged for family holidays. Today it is a completely different story – densely built Sunny Beach has become a party place for young people from all over Europe who come here to spend their holidays in the summer season, which lasts from June to the end of September.
Location of Sunny Beach
The Sunny Beach resort is located on the shore of the bay, in the form of a semicircle. The beach of the Sunny Beach resort stretches for 8 km and is part of the town of Nessebar . To the south, Sunny Beach merges with Nessebar, and to the north with Sveti Vlas .
Sunny Beach Climate
The resort of Sunny Beach has a humid subtropical climate, mild and pleasant, without unpleasant heat peaks compared to Mediterranean resorts. Sunny Beach really lives up to its name: from May to October there are on average about 1700 sunny hours. The average annual air temperature is about +14 °C. The largest number of sunny hours is in July, 356. The average water temperature in the sea in May is +18, in June it is already +24, and the warmest water in the sea is in August +27 °C.
Transport
The nearest airports are Burgas (about 35 km) and Varna (about 100 km), with the journey from the latter being on a two-lane road over a mountain pass. Therefore, there may be traffic jams on this route in the summer months. And the journey can take up to three hours by car. The Burgas – Pomorie – Nessebar – Sunny Beach route is mostly four-lane. Regular bus service to all major cities in Bulgaria is served by the bus station (Avtogara). It is located near the center.
Buses to Burgas (travel time about 30 minutes) leave every half hour and are offered by several companies. In summer, buses also leave every hour to Sofia (travel time about four hours) and Plovdiv (travel time about 2.5 hours). The price of a bus ticket on the Burgas – Sunny Beach route is about 7 leva. You can save almost 2 times if you take a passing bus from Sofia, and then you can get there for half the price, for 3.58 leva.
Prices for intercity tickets:
Sunny Beach – Overview | 7 lev |
Sunny Beach – Varna | 11 lev |
Sunny Beach – Nessebar | 1.50 BGN |
The resort is not connected to the Bulgarian railway network.
Sunny Beach Beach
The entrance to the sea is gentle, which is suitable for children. The sand is clean and fine.
The width of the beach reaches 100 meters in places. The quality of water and beach care are excellent. And the resort of Sunny Beach itself was designed taking into account the latest trends in water purification.
And for this reason, the ecological title – Blue Flag has been developing for many years on the beaches of Sunny Beach. However, due to heavy and prolonged rains, as can be seen in the video, the water is not as clear as usual. All three beaches “North”, “Central” and “South” received this year the prestigious international ecology award “Blue Flag”. As the authorities say, this season there will be at least 4.5 meters between umbrellas. Prices for umbrellas and sun loungers vary slightly from beach to beach within 1 euro.
Accommodation
What about accommodation and hotels? The choice is huge: from extra economy class to five-star. Accommodation prices start from 18 euros per day for a 2-bed room when booking for a week in season. From 20 euros per day for a 2-bed room in a 3-star hotel when booking for a week in season. And from 42 euros per day for a 2-bed room in a hotel with breakfast, lunch and dinner (full board). If you choose only breakfast and dinner, the price will be even less. But on the first line from the sea, hotels will cost significantly more.

Nutrition
There are many catering establishments in Sunny Beach. Many cafes and clubs are located right on the beach. There are hotels that offer their own meals, including full board or a buffet. If you prefer to eat on your own, you can buy food in small shops or in large ones, such as Grandmarket Janet and the recently opened Lidl.

Features of these stores: Janet is an interesting assortment, close to the stores of Russia and Ukraine and surprisingly low prices. Lidl is a German chain of grocery stores with a specific assortment, distinguished by low prices, as for Bulgaria.
Sunny Beach infrastructure and entertainment.
There are two modern water parks in Sunny Beach. The closest water park is called Action, and the one further away is Nessebar.
It is difficult to determine the favorite water park, because due to competition between water parks, every year before the start of the season they add new attractions to attract customers. Special free buses go to both water parks every 20 minutes. (price for the water park). The stops where these buses stop have special information signs. These signs contain information about the schedule of buses going to the water parks. In the very center of the resort there is Luna Park with attractions that usually do not work during the day, but start working in the evening, the official working hours are from 17 to midnight. In Sunny Beach you will find a full range of water attractions. From this pier a boat departs, which sails to Nessebar.
The resort has mini trains that travel along specific routes. You can rent a bicycle, electric bike, electric scooter or electric Hummer.
If you want to rent a car, there are many car rental companies at the resort. The price for a 2020 car starts from 17 euros per day when renting for 5 days. There is tennis and mini golf.
Right in the center there are Turkish baths Erma Spa where you can take a whole program or separate procedures. This year we saw a novelty, FISH – SPA peeling for feet with FISH.
For those who like to ride cars, there is a karting club with its own track. It is located next to the main road, where you will see a plane like this. Paintball is also offered there.
There is a shooting club with a clay pigeon shooting range. There is also an equestrian club on Sunny Beach.
There are many excursions you can take directly from Sunny Beach. Some of them are: Catamaran ride, 4 hours. Picnic on a yacht. Visit to Balchik and Cape Kaliakra. Excursion along the Bulgarian Riviera – Varna and Aladzha. Trip to Ravadinovo Castle, near Sozopol, which is also suitable for children. Visit to Zheravna village-architectural reserve, which has preserved many architectural ensembles of the 18th-19th centuries. ATV safari. Individual shopping tour to Burgas. Diving. Sea fishing.
The main attraction for tourists is the nearby historic town of Nessebar, which was founded more than 3,200 years ago.
The town of Nessebar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can be reached by bus (1.50 leva), a small electric train or a boat that leaves from the main pier in Sunny Beach.
Sunny Beach also hosts events such as the “Decade of Symphonic Music”, part of the International Folklore Festival, fashion shows and various beach competitions. And the Golden Orpheus Song Contest was held here until 1999.

- The opportunity to buy products at low prices in Bulgaria.
- Clean and warm sea, plenty of sunny days.
- The sea is also well suited for the little ones.
- There are water parks and attractions.
- There are attractions nearby and excursions are possible.
- Sunny Beach has a perfectly flat surface, no elevation changes, you won’t have to go down to the sea from a height and then climb back up if your hotel is far from the sea.
Cons of Sunny Beach
- For vacationers looking for a quiet place to relax, it may seem like a noisy place.
- On the streets you can often see young people in a state of intoxication, especially in the evenings.
- Due to the very dense development there are few green spaces, if this is important to you, then it is better to choose another resort, for example, Golden Sands.
- For those who are on holiday with their own car, we recommend that when booking, you look for a hotel that provides its own parking. Public parking costs 1.5-2.5 euros/hour and you may simply not find it nearby.
