Lidl is a German supermarket chain that has more than 10,000 branches in 32 countries and is currently the largest chain in the world by number of branches. The first store under the Lidl brand was opened in 1973, and 11 years later, Kaufland stores of the same company appeared.
Lidl store in Bulgaria
Lidl stores traditionally have many German-speaking customers. What makes these stores special is:
- exclusive assortment, many products sold in Lidl are not available in other stores;
- many goods made in Germany.
There were no discount cards in Lidl stores. But recently, literally these days, a special mobile application appeared, called “Lidl plus”, which is installed on the phone and at the checkout the phone is shown instead of a discount card and a discount is provided, the advertising booklet promises discounts of up to 5 euros per week. But at the moment this application cannot be installed on the phone, it gives an error.
Let me remind you that in Bulgaria it is easy to navigate the local currency, just divide the price in leva by two and you get the price in euros.
Bread prices
So, let’s start our acquaintance with the Lidl store and the range of products from the bread department.
By the way, white bread is more popular in Bulgaria, and gray or black bread is not available everywhere. And as a rule, its price is higher than white bread. The photo shows “Energy” bread from a mixture of seeds in 500 gram packages. The price of such bread is 76 euro cents. Also in the photo you can see whole grain toast bread in a 550 gram package. Whole grain bread in a 700 gram package. Classic white bread in a 700 gram package costs 45 cents.
Each Lidl store has its own mini bakery with freshly baked goods. A chocolate cake costs half a euro.
The prices in all Lidl stores in Bulgaria are almost the same. The assortment is usually the same, but also depends on the size of the store. In some stores, the assortment is incomplete. Every week, the Lidl chain has promotions, for example, a week of Italian cuisine with the delivery of relevant products. There are also weekly promotions with discounts on certain products.
Tea and coffee prices in LIDL store in Bulgaria

Lidl in Bulgaria. Prices for meat and sausages
Cooked and smoked pork belly costs 5 euros 61 cents per kilogram, usually 300-400 grams per package. A kilogram of such cooked sausage costs 2 euros 19 cents.
There are pork sausages in XXL packaging, and a standard 200-gram package costs 91 euro cents. Poultry sausages are even cheaper, only 2 euros per kilogram. Economy smoked sausage costs 1 euro 37 cents per sausage. And 1 kg of dry sausage made in Germany or the Czech Republic costs 7 euros 65 cents, and with a discount it will be 30% cheaper.
Chilled chicken 2 euros 44 cents per kilogram. Chicken necks 1 kilogram costs 1 euro.
Egg prices
Chicken eggs 10 pcs. L size.
Milk prices
Butter: Irish, British with salt. For a pack of 250 grams the price is 2 euros 24 cents.
There is a small selection of yoghurts, mostly of their own brands.
Cheese prices
Sliced Edam cheese, 150 gram pack. Emmental cheese, 400 gram pack. Blue cheese, 120 gram pack. Popular English Cheddar cheese in assortment.
Spaghetti 400 grams. Medium rice 1 kilogram.
Sunflower oil liter bottle. Kilogram of sugar.
Prices for vegetables and fruits
We approach the rows of vegetables and fruits.
Lemons at 1 euro per kilogram. Apples from 61 cents per kilogram. Onions at 40 cents per kilogram. Carrots at 30 cents per kilogram. Potatoes at 51 cents per kilogram. Tomatoes at 91 cents per kilogram. The store has a small selection of canned goods – mackerel fillets in oil or tomato sauce.
Other products in Lidl
There is a small selection of cookies and biscuits. The store offers frozen fruits and vegetables. So, a mix of frozen wild berries costs 3 euros for a 750 gram package.
There are several types of pizza also made in Germany. Pizza is also sold in economy packaging – 4 pizzas at once, which makes 89 cents the price for one pizza.
Seafood. Mussels, 450 gram packaging. Crab sticks 1 euro per package. Frozen mackerel 3 euros per kilogram. The Lidl store also offers semi-finished products.
Ice cream and chocolate prices
A bar of Bulgarian chocolate costs 45 cents. A 200 gram bar of German chocolate is sold for 1.78 euros. 100 gram chocolate is sold for 0.40 euros.
It should be noted that Lidl stores have the cheapest ice cream in Bulgaria. Moreover, it is also the leader in terms of price-quality ratio. So, ice cream with chocolate glaze on a stick costs from 0.15 euros per package! And ice cream with chocolate glaze with nuts costs 0.40 euros. Ice cream is also sold in 1 liter packages. A 1.5 liter bottle of water costs 20 cents.
