How much money is spent on food in Bulgaria and other countries?

The team of analysts at Picodi.com checked statistics from 105 countries and calculated how much money people spend on food around the world.
The data collected shows that, depending on the country, spending on food can vary from a few percent to more than half of consumer spending. For example, less than a tenth of spending on food and non-alcoholic beverages consumed at home is spent in countries such as the United States (6.7%), Singapore (8.4%), the United Kingdom (8.7%), Ireland (9.2%) and Switzerland (9.9%).
In this ranking, Bulgaria ranks 42nd out of 105 countries – food and non-alcoholic beverages account for 19.3% of expenditure. This result is similar to the indicator in Latvia (19.3%) and Kuwait (also 19.3%).
Among the countries included in the ranking, the highest percentage of spending on food is observed in Nigeria, Myanmar and Kenya – 59%, 56.6% and 56.1% respectively.
How much is spent on food in European countries?
The highest expenditure on food relative to all expenditure in European countries is observed in Ukraine with 41.6% of expenditure and 92nd place, followed by Moldova 41.1% of expenditure and 90th place, North Macedonia 33.3% of expenditure and 79th place, Belarus 32.1% of expenditure and 76th place, Bosnia and Herzegovina 30% of expenditure and 71st place, Russia 29% of expenditure and 68th place and Turkey 27.3% of expenditure and 62nd place.
The highest food costs in America are in the United States ($256 per month). The lowest food costs can be found in Venezuela ($4 per month).
Methodology
The report uses the latest household food and non-alcoholic beverage consumption data from Euromonitor and official government websites. Currency conversions were made using average rates from Google Finance for July 2023.
