February in Bulgaria could be the warmest month in the last 140 years

It will be very warm throughout the country, predicted climatologist Georgiy Rachev. In the foothills, the temperature will reach +17 degrees, and in Northern Bulgaria and everywhere on the leeward slopes of the mountains, a fan effect of warm wind will be felt.

Thus, in the cities of Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse the maximum temperature at midday will reach +20-22 degrees. It is possible that local records of the day will be set in some places, admitted Georgiy Rachev.

We are seeing a very strong southerly flow and it will be very warm until Tuesday, the climatologist said.

We expect a cold snap from Thursday, so with the arrival of Baba Marta’s holiday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the weather will be a little cooler, but not cold.

The maximum temperature will remain within the range of +12-17 degrees, at least until Sunday, the national holiday on March 3. From Thursday onwards, it will become cooler along the sea, as an east wind will appear, bringing cold air from the sea.

The maximum temperature along the Black Sea coast will be +10-12 degrees.

If this forecast comes true, it is quite possible that February in Bulgaria will be the warmest in the last 140 years, according to Georgiy Rachev.
