General information
According to the latest data, the city has a population of just over 2,000 people. The “golden mean” of the Bulgarian coast is the resort town of Obzor.
The history of the city began more than 3,000 years ago. Initially, the Thracians created their settlement. Then Greek settlers founded the city.
And then the city was conquered by the Romans. The remains of these buildings have survived to this day. After the division of the Roman Empire into Western and Eastern (Byzantine), the city became the summer residence of the Byzantine emperors.

Location of the Obzor
The town of Obzor is located on the Black Sea coast between the cities of Varna and Burgas, approximately in the middle. It is located in a bay that begins north of Cape St. Atanas and to the south reaches Mount Eminska. The Obzor resort is located on a panoramic road connecting the Southern and Northern coasts of the Black Sea. The Dvoynitsa River divides the large beach into two parts: the northern part where the beaches of four and five-star hotels are located and the southern part where the city beach itself and the beaches of other hotels are located.
How to get there?
The nearest airport is in Varna (68 km). The distance to the airport in Burgas is 60 km, but the road goes through a mountain pass, where traffic jams are common in the summer.
There is a bus station in Obzor that accepts buses from Varna and Burgas. A minibus around the city costs 75 euro cents. Parking costs 1 euro per 1 hour.
Beach in the city Obzor
Obzor has one of the longest beaches in Bulgaria, which has a total length of almost 9 km. Along the beach, which is within the city, runs a street.
The entrance to the sea is gentle, at first the depth near the shore is up to the waist of an adult, and then it becomes shallower. Access to the beaches is free. But it should be borne in mind that there is an open sea here and strong and high waves are frequent.
The beach is divided into paid zones, where you can rent an umbrella and a sun lounger, and free zones, where you can settle down with your own beach accessories. Lifeguards work on the beaches.
Accommodation in the city Obzor
What about housing and hotels?
Although the town of Obzor is a small resort town, housing prices turned out to be higher than in the same Sunny Beach .
But although the prices are not low, there is still demand, and it is high. So in pre-coronavirus times, the best hotels in Obzor were selling out their rooms in winter. Now the availability is a little better, but there will most likely be no rooms in good hotels if you want to book a week before arrival. Such is the demand.
We found the cheapest offer, a room in the Pink Guest House for 22 euros per 2-bed room per day. Reviews on booking 9.1 is a lot It is located near the sea 200 meters. There are cheaper options, but more than 700 meters to the sea.
Are there any options with stars? Yes, of course. We found the option Hotel Reina del Mar – 5 stars , all inclusive.
At a price of 334 euros for a 2-bed room per day! And this is the price with a 10% Genius discount. Of the features there are 5 swimming pools, one of them is indoor. Reviews on booking 9.3, and this is a lot. Walking around the hotel, we noted that the guests are mainly from Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Germany.
Nutrition in Obzor
There are catering establishments in Obzor. But the choice is small.
There are hotels that offer their own meals, including full board or All inclusive. But the prices there are usually high. If you prefer to eat on your own, you can buy food in small shops, but at a significantly higher price.
To study the prices of products, we visited a large store in the very center of the city, Aldo. We had been to this store about 10 years ago, then it was full of goods, but now the store made a sad sight. Many half-empty shelves and just empty space in the store. But even more surprising were the prices. We knew that they would be high, but not that high.
For some products, prices are 100-150% higher than in Varna stores. And some are more expensive by more than 175%! For dumplings, the resort price increase is more than 100%. Milka chocolate is sold with a resort markup of more than 100%. Prices for milk and eggs are not much higher than normal, the difference in price is only 20-30%. And there is no “cheap” bread on sale, everything has literally been raked up, although its price is 2 times higher.
But we found a place in Obzor with reasonable prices for food products, it’s a small market that works all day.
Resort infrastructure Overview and entertainment.
At the entrance to the city there is a small Lunapark for children. In the city center, not far from the beach, there is a small park. The park has several attractions for children and a playground with exercise machines.
There is a football field where you can play football and tennis courts. There is a standard set of water attractions at sea: parasailing, banana, tablet, jet ski.
There are car rental companies in Obzor. For lovers of walking, in the forest adjacent to the city there is a walking eco-route “Koleto”.
Pros of the resort Obzor
- Environmental friendliness. There are no industrial enterprises in the city of Obzor and within a radius of several dozen kilometers from it. Therefore, the sea is clean here, the city itself borders on the forest, which ensures the use of air baths with a beneficial effect.
- Optimal transport links.
- The sea and the beach are also suitable for small children.
- There are few attractions in the city itself.
Cons of the resort city Obzor
- The main disadvantage of the resort is food. You won’t be able to eat cheaply here. Even if you cook everything yourself, you will have to buy food, and the prices in the stores are very high. The food market can partially save the situation.
- It is not possible to exchange currency profitably, or even simply optimally, here, the rates of the euro and dollar are greatly undervalued, such rates are almost nowhere to be found. Therefore, it is better to carry out currency exchange transactions on the way to Obzor, for example, in regular banks in the city of Varna.
- If your home is close to the sea, you won’t have to go down to the sea from a height and then climb back up. If the distance is greater, you’ll have to go up when you come from the sea. But the climb is small.
Conclusions
The review is suitable for people looking for a truly relaxing holiday at sea in a small resort town.
