You can also take part in the assessment of the resort – by giving your rating at the end of the article.
The main thing about Albena
Albena is a seaside resort in Bulgaria . The third most popular among tourists. It differs from other resorts in Bulgaria in that it is a closed resort complex. At the entrance to which there are automatic barriers.
The Albena resort itself was founded back in 1966. At one time, the resort was visited by Leonid Brezhnev, Indira Gandhi, Fidel Castro, Yumzhagiin Tsedenbal and many others. By 1989, Albena was the most modern tourist resort in Bulgaria.
According to long-term data, the warmest month is July, and the average air temperature in August is about 29 degrees, and the sea water is warmest in August.
This summer we saw the most tourists from Romania, this is already traditional. And many vacationers from Bulgaria, also vacationers from Germany, China, Slovakia and Ukraine were often met.
What sets it apart from other resorts is that there is free Wi-Fi throughout the resort. We tested the signal in the area of the courts and on the beach. The Internet worked fine, despite the abundance of people.
There are drinking fountains scattered around the resort. And not only because the water here is drinkable, but also because it is mineral. This is mineral water with low mineralization, hydrocarbonate. It helps with a number of diseases.
The signs installed near each such source contain information about the composition of mineral water and its main properties. Another feature of the resort is that there are fully functional free toilets throughout the resort.
Location of Albena
The Albena resort is located on the Black Sea coast on the slopes of the Dobrudzha plateau, 30 km north of Varna and 8 km south of Balchik . Albena borders the Baltata Nature Reserve on the southern side of the resort.
Albena. How to get there?
You can get to Albena by plane. Fly to Varna airport by plane, and then travel 38 km by bus or taxi along the picturesque road running along the sea coast. Buses from Varna to Albena leave every half hour. Ticket price from 3 euros.
If you go by car, entry to the resort is free for up to 30 minutes. But if for more time, then you will have to pay for the whole day. The price depends on the parking place. The lowest price is at the bus station. But it is the farthest distance from the sea.
Parking with an average distance to the sea costs 5 euros. The closest parking to the sea is in the so-called “green zone”. All these parking zones are separated by additional automatic barriers.
Another pleasant feature of the resort is the internal free public transport – special small trains. They run according to the schedule on their routes in the resort.
Beach in Albena
The length of the beach in Albena is more than five kilometers. The beach is very wide, similar to the beach on the ocean coast. The width of the beach is up to 150 meters with fine sand. In our opinion, the beach in Albena is one of the best beaches in Bulgaria.
The entry into the water is gentle, which is suitable for children. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag every year since 1996. Umbrellas and sun loungers for hotel guests are free, except for the first and second rows from the sea. You will still have to pay for these umbrellas.
Other resort guests can take their own umbrella and settle in the free zone or rent one. The price is the same on all beaches this summer: 3.50 euros for an umbrella, 3.50 euros for a sun lounger. The price for a mattress is 1 euro. The beaches have lifeguards. A medical center with an ambulance. They are equipped with simple changing rooms and showers.
There are rubbish bins on the beach and on all busy streets. There are free toilets near the beach.
On the beach of Albena you can not only sunbathe, swim in the sea and play beach volleyball. A ride on a jet ski will cost 30 euros for 10 minutes. A banana boat costs 10 euros, a tablet costs 15 euros, a ride on a catamaran costs 15 euros for 1 hour, a boat ride costs 7.5 euros per adult and 5 euros per child.
If you want to diversify your leisure time with water and air extreme sports, then parasailing is at your service. One flight costs 60 euros, if you fly two, then it will be 90 euros for two, and three of us 125 euros.
Accommodation. Albena Bulgaria
Almost all hotels in the Albena resort are offered on an all-inclusive basis. And this has its own advantage. It is that you do not have to waste time on where to eat and, accordingly, there is more time for the rest itself.
Accommodation prices this summer started at 104 euros for a double room in a three-star hotel. In a hotel on the first line by the sea, prices start at 137 euros.
Please note that these are minimum prices, and the maximum price available for booking is 332 euros for two on an all-inclusive basis with free access to the SPA center and parking. Other prices are in this range.
It is also important to take into account that the best hotels are sold out in advance, usually in winter.
It should also be borne in mind that if you are staying in a hotel far from the sea, it will probably be much higher, that is, on a decent hill. But in Albena they found a modern way out of this situation.
For hotels on the hill, an escalator has been built. You can use it to go up to your hotel or down to the sea.
We also noticed that the hotels that are far from the sea on a hill look more worn out, we hope that this is only on the outside.
If you have stayed in such hotels, please write your impressions in the comments.
Food. Albena Bulgaria
As we noted, in Albena hotels offer accommodation on an all-inclusive basis, already with meals. But for those who want to additionally diversify their diet, there are catering establishments. There are not as many of them as in other large resorts, but they are easy to find. Some cafes or stalls with ice cream and other food work right at the beach on the promenade. Which is very convenient.
So, an all-inclusive lunch in one of the restaurants by the sea is offered for 11.5 euros, and dinner for 15 euros. And if you go further, you can find lower prices.
If you prefer to eat on your own, you can buy food in small shops. But the prices there are resort prices in the truest sense of the word.
We came across one of these shops. We only made sure that the prices there were resort prices. Although the signboard enticingly said “Good Price”. But the prices turned out to be even higher than in the snack vending machine right here at the resort.
What to see in Albena?
Right on the resort grounds there is the Aquamania water park. The price of a ticket to the water park in the high season is 22.5 euros for adults and 11 euros for children.
In addition to the classic water park, Albena has a new one – a large floating water park right in the sea. The ticket costs 7.50 euros, and on weekends 10 euros per day.
Along the coast parallel to the beach there is an asphalt road, a kind of Promenade. You can walk or ride a bike along it. Along the same street there are restaurants and stalls with fast food and accessories for beach recreation and souvenir shops.
There are also massage pavilions. I came across a pavilion with peeling fish. So a 20-minute session cost 10 euros. There are ATMs throughout the resort. The resort has a wide infrastructure for sports. You can play volleyball, play tennis.
One hour of play with equipment and a coach costs 44 euros. You can play badminton.
Archery costs 10 euros for an adult and 7.50 euros for a child. Albena also offers horse riding, go-karting and mini golf. Bicycle rental for two costs 7.50 euros for 30 minutes. The same bicycle, but electric, costs 10 euros. A variety of services are offered, including a kindergarten and children’s clubs with educators.
For those who are not used to lying on the beach all day, we recommend visiting the Balata Nature Reserve. You can take many excursions directly from Albena. Some of them are: visiting the town of Balchik and Cape Kaliakra, visiting the dolphinarium in Varna .
Health improvement in Albena
The air in these places is rich in salts, ozone, iodine, bromine and calcium, its humidity is optimal and averages 65%. Therefore, many combine their vacation in Albena with health improvement. The medical balneological center uses everything that is given by the nature of this area: the ecological situation, mineral water and the sea climate.
